Free Optical Character Recognition Online Tool

 

Free-ocr is an online tool for OCR (optical character recognition). There are many other sites which provides this kind of service, but what makes this different is that this is free. This site currently supports PDF, JPG, BMP, GIF, PNG or TIFF formats to convert to text format.

You just need to provide the file and select the language of document to improve recognition of language specific letter variants & click on “Send File” button. Within seconds you will see the text in a box with the contents of the file uploaded.

The only restrictions are:

 

1) Images must not be larger than 2MB
2) No wider or higher than 5000 pixels
3) Limit of 10 image uploads per hour

The results are not 100% perfect, but proofreading your text is a lot faster & easier than to type the whole document.

Here is the image that I uploaded the result .. Not bad for a free service.
